Village Harmony, a youth world music ensemble, will perform July 9 and 10 in South Paris and Farmington, respectively. The group’s second summer program features Celtic harmonies, a Mexican mariachi band, Yiddish and Klezmer music, Bulgarian village songs, American shape-note singing and a renaissance mass by Victoria.
The ensemble of 27 young singers is led by Village Harmony founder Larry Gordon. Joining him as co-directors are North Carolina choir leader and multi-instrumentalist Jane Peppler and Vermont dance musician and Irish music specialist Brendan Taaffe.
Village Harmony voices are augmented in many numbers by a lively band of fiddles, cellos, clarinets, trumpets and keyboards.
Concerts will be July 9 at the South Paris Congregational Church and July 10 at Nordica Hall on the University of Maine at Farmington campus. Concerts will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Suggested admission at the door is $8, $5 for students. FMI: call 743-2437 (South Paris) or 778-4572 (Farmington); or go online to www.villageharmony.org.
