Dear Sun Spots: I am desperate.

You have been wonderful in finding obscure information and locating items and services. Please help me with this one!

I have a 3-year-old EMachine, computer, which has worked flawlessly until a week ago. I called my server, NetZero, to ask why it would no longer dial up the Internet. I was told to use the disc, a piece of software that came with the computer, to set it back to its original setting. (I am computer illiterate and do not understand any of the language the techs use).

During the move from Florida the disc and handbook that came with the EMachine were lost. Is there anyone among your readership who would please loan me a disc or tell me where to buy one? Are there any computer repair persons who make house calls? I will be eternally grateful for your help. – Sheila Meader, Lewiston.

Answer: In addition to responses from readers, according to www.netzero.net, you should click on “Getting Started” on the left-hand side of your computer screen. Then click on “How Do I Uninstall/Reinstall NetZero. You will then need to “download a new copy.” Hopefully this will assist you. There also seems to be installation information on this site for signing up online, downloading, and installing NetZero HiSpeed 3G or Platinum. Sun Spots is not sure if this is also something you are looking to do. If you do not have access to a home computer, you can always check out the Lewiston Public Library, which does have public access to the Internet. In addition, try contacting Rent-A-Geek, 8 Cummings Ave., Augusta, ME 04330, (207) 622-9511, e-mail [email protected] to see if they can assist you.

Dear Sun Spots: Keep up the good work. Very enjoyable column. You’ve helped me a couple of times before so I hope you can help me again. When Gooseberry Barn was going out of business I bought a jar of Essentia Body Butter, Orange and Spice made in China, Maine. I tried calling the phone number but it had been disconnected. Does anyone know where I can purchase this lotion? – A Norway Reader.

Answer: Sun Spots has called several stores which appeared to have carried this product at one time. Nobody seems to recall where the company has gone. Sun Spots also tried calling the company, but there is no forwarding number. Just Maine Made in Portland says it no longer carries the item and believes the company, a cottage industry, may no longer be in business. Sun Spots would encourage anyone with information on this company to please contact the column and help this reader out in finding Essentia Body Lotion.

Dear Sun Spots: I have a set of encyclopedias and two electric typewriters to give away to anyone interested. Please call 784-3497 and leave message. Thanks. – Dot, Lewiston.
