Good humor is the spark of a happy soul. It induces the spark of life’s essence and attitude. The caption of the Sun Journal editorial cartoon June 28, however, was in poor taste. It showed insensitivity to the suffering of too many families who have lost loved members in the military battles in the Middle East.

The graphic display “4 female G.I.’s die in Iraq,” along with the child’s retort to a friend, was most thoughtless. I fail to find its intended humor. Surely our nation’s thinking at this point in time has not equated our present sentiments to that lower level of comparison.

It is my hope that the page editor would review forthcoming cartoons with a given sense of balance for the sensitivity of appropriate display to the public. Our military forces deserve that, at the very least.

Military combat is no joke. Just ask the soldier who has been there.

My prayers go with our military forces, wherever they serve for our protection.
