Millions pay to see a few happy faces. It makes me sick every time I watch news of one celebrity or another smiling because he or she has just improved his or her life. The impression I get from those relaying this news is that we should all be happy just to have witnessed the events reported, as if these celebrities were not merely spoiled.

I have nothing against these celebrities, I just don’t think that respectable news agencies should be wasting their time reporting on such trivial matters.

There are plenty of people out there contributing far more to society on a daily basis than celebrities do with their occasional, self-promotional appearances, and our news agencies should be telling us about them.

A movie, a television show or a magazine article will never do as much for the lives of the many as do the selfless acts of our many unknown heroes.

I believe that news agencies have gotten lazy over the years and are now relying on existing networks to gather information. This would explain why the same basic story appears on the cover of nearly every newspaper every day with little more than a slight alteration of title to divide them.

What happened to the day when one could not tell what might hit the front page a week or even a month in advance?

It’s time that our reporters turned off their computers, got out of their offices and started looking for some new material.
