RUMFORD – Harold D. Fickett, Jr., 81, died Friday, July 1, at the Rumford Community Home, Rumford. A lifelong resident of the area, he had resided on Kennebec Street, Rumford.

Harold was born in Rumford, on June 28, 1924, the son of Harold and Della (Deschenes) Fickett Sr., and had attended Rumford schools.

Harold served with the 1538th Army Air Force Base Unit during World War II from 1943 to 1946 in the Asiatic Pacific Theater in the ATC (Transportation Command) in Hawaii, Guam and Okinawa.

He had worked in the maintenance department at Boise Cascade Paper Company in Rumford for many years until retirement in 1978.

He was a communicant of St. Athanasius-St. John Church, a member of Robert Shand Post 1641, VFW and a member of Napoleon Ouellette Post 24, American Legion.

He was married in Mexico, on June 7, 1947, to the former Edna M. Desroches who survives of Rumford. Other survivors include two sons, Daniel Fickett of Miami, Fla., James Fickett and wife, Donna, of Waterford; two daughters, Nancy Fickett of Miami, Fla., and Sandra Fickett of Biddeford; six grandchildren, James Fickett Jr. and wife, Brenda, Eric Fickett, Jon Fickett and wife, Heather, and her daughter, Jazmynn, Angela and Alan Brooks, Sara Fickett; a great-granddaughter, Abigail Fickett; and a special friend, Patricia Riemensnider.
