HAMPTON FALLS, N.H. (AP) – A Massachusetts man struck a New Hampshire state trooper Monday with his car after skidding into the breakdown lane on Interstate 95 where the trooper was standing.

Capt. Christopher Colitti was treated at Portsmouth Regional Hospital for a broken leg and minor bumps and bruises. Two other officers were on patrol with him when the accident happened.

State police identified the driver as Dionicio Pablo, 23, of Medford, Mass.

Pablo was slowing down to let officers stop a speeding car when he skidded into the breakdown lane where Colitti was standing, according to police reports.

He was cited with operating at unreasonable speed and ordered to appear in Hampton District Court on Aug. 19.

Trooper Dean Holston said other charges may follow as the investigation continues. Holston said Pablo presented Guatemalan identification and a check of his name and birth date matched ones on an immigration bulletin.

He said officers were working to check Pablo’s legal status in the country.
