LIVERMORE – Norlands Living History Center will offer two opportunities for the public to enjoy its, “Meal, Laugh and Learn” program this summer. The dates are Saturday, July 16, and Friday, Aug. 19. Participants will begin their journey at 11 a.m. and can expect to be well fed and entertained during the three and a half hour period. Visitors may stay on a little longer to enjoy the general store and time for sitting on the Washburn Mansion’s veranda.

The 445 acres of the Norlands Living History Center, located on a windswept hill in Livermore, features five 19th century buildings: a one-room school, a white-spired meeting house, a granite-library and the Victorian mansion and attached barn. Across the road rolling fields and forest stretch westward to the distant hills. The setting provides an opportunity to be educated and entertained through living history experiences.

According to the staff, visitors to the Washburn-Norlands Living History Center frequently exclaim, “I’ve visited dozens of historic sites, but I’ve never had as much fun as here at Norlands.”

Participants experience two “Laugh and Learn” programs, one in the library amid the historical artifacts and paintings and another in the one-room schoolhouse. Both programs are led by seasoned Norlands staff members, dressed in 1870’s era costumes. These programs are tailored for adults, with minimal walking. Guests are seated for both programs.

In the big farm kitchen, tables are set with checkered cloths and guests are served an old-fashioned country meal of chicken pot pie, pickled beets, coleslaw, and apple pie and ice cream for dessert.

An all-inclusive fee of $21 per person covers both the meal and programs. Reservations are mandatory and must be confirmed no later than one week in advance. Call the Norlands at 897-4366 with any questions and to make reservations.
