TURNER – Fred H. Emerson Sr., 65, passed away peacefully June 30, at home, with his family by his side after a short and final battle with a brain tumor.

He was born in Lewiston, on Sept. 16, 1939, son of the late Ralph and Edna (Mitchell) Emerson. He graduated with the Class of 1958, from Turner schools and has been a member of the community ever since.

Shortly after in 1960, he joined the U.S. Army for six months and then stayed in the Army Reserves for several years.

He was married to Mary Hafford from Dec. 18, 1959 until January 1989, and together they raised three children.

He had been a farmer most of his life, until May 1995, when he started working for K & K Excavation until 2001, then he moved on to working for the town of Turner until May 2003, when he started to battle a brain tumor, which he beat the first time, but sadly took his life this second time.

In his free time, he enjoyed snowmobiling, four-wheeling with his grandchildren, and especially loved spending time with family and friends at his camp in Rangeley.

He will be sadly missed by his two daughters, Tina Smith and Julie Anne Emerson of Turner; one son, Fred Emerson Jr., of Bangor; four grandchildren, Marcie Jean Smith and her boyfriend, Justin Shumway, of Turner, Paige and Chase Emerson of Turner, and Monica Emerson of Florida; one great-grandchild, Ethan Emerson of Florida; one sister, Marie Coffin and her husband, Stan, of Hebron; one brother, Charlie Emerson of Turner; and two nieces and several cousins.
