JAY – A Jay man is charged with driving drunk into the back of another vehicle and punching the other driver Sunday night, police said.

Jay police officer Richard Caton IV arrested Patrick Daniels, 22, on charges of operating under the influence and assault, Jay Police Chief Larry White Sr. said Tuesday. Assistant district attorneys are reviewing the case for other charges, he said.

Police received reports of a man being assaulted on Horan Street, off Church Street, about 7 p.m. Sunday, White said. Before that, they had a report that a vehicle had rear-ended another and then passed it, White said.

The driver of the rear-ended vehicle followed Daniels to Horan Street where Daniels struck the driver several times, White said.

When Daniels heard that police had been called, White said, he fled, and Livermore Falls police, who were in the area to help search for him, found him on Church Street.

When Caton arrived, White said, “Mr. Daniels was still unruly and he was arrested.”

Jay officers Sgt. Charles Keene and Paul Mingo also assisted Caton, White said.

Daniels was taken to Franklin County jail in Farmington.

He posted $200 cash bail Sunday, an intake worker at the jail said Tuesday.

Daniels is scheduled to appear Aug. 24 in 12th District Court in Farmington.
