LIVERMORE FALLS – Selectmen have decided to extend the time frame to receive applications for a new town manager.
Rather than having applications due in July, applications now will be due Monday, Aug. 1, board Chairman Kenny Jacques said Friday.
On Thursday, selectmen held a special meeting to discuss advertising for the job and establishing a search committee to replace Town Manager Alan Gove.
Gove submitted his resignation June 24, with his last day projected at July 23.
Jacques said Gove mentioned that he may leave before that date if he needs to do so for a new job in the private sector, and selectmen accepted that.
The board opted not to appoint an interim town manager, Jacques said.
“We’re fortunate this is a quiet time for town business,” he said, since the town meeting is over.
The women in the office are going to handle the day-to-day operation, Jacques said. If something small comes up, he’ll take care of it, and if it’s something larger, he’ll bring it to the board’s attention for a decision.
Selectmen also decided not to use the Maine Municipal Association to help conduct a search, he said.
The board agreed to form a search committee consisting of department heads of police, highway and sewer; two selectmen; a town office staff member; and a community member, Jacques said.
The selectmen will make the final choice for the candidate for town manager, he said.
