Maine Democrats believe their constituents lack the mental ability to recognize government gall in Augusta.

Need proof? See Gov. Baldacci’s glowing praise of legislative Democrats for voting not to borrow $420 million to “keep the lights on” in state government.

That borrowing mumbo jumbo was voted by Democrats in their majority party budget in the first place. Baldacci carried their banner.

Democrats were brought to their government senses by Republican-backed petitions seeking to put the borrowing to a statewide vote. That “handwriting on the wall” made Democrats agree with Republicans to delete that borrowing.

Hokey pokey government lives on in the Blaine House and State House simply because Democrats suspect Mainers lack sufficient gray matter to recognize it.

And citizen silence proves their point.
