BETHEL – Bethel Bandstand Concerts will return to the Common this summer, courtesy of the Mahoosuc Arts Council. Kicking off the series at 4 p.m. Sunday will be the lively music of Boréal Tordu, as the first of four Sunday afternoon shows.
Boréal Tordu is an original blend of Acadian folk, Cajun swing, maritime ballads, crooked fiddle tunes and foot-stomping French dance music. While signs of their parents’ French culture can still be found in Maine, it was almost lost to their generation after years of assimilation.
More than a revival, their music represents a continuation of Franco musical traditions passed down from the Acadians, the Quebecois, and the French-speaking people of Madawaska and mill towns all over New England.
Upcoming concerts will feature the Denny Breau Trio, an eclectic mix of rock to rockabilly, July 24; the Celtic tunes of the duo Castlebay, Aug. 21; and the acoustic folk music of Anni Clark, Aug, 28.
Concerts begin at 4 p.m. and are free to the public. Rain site: Bingham Auditorium at Gould Academy.
