Boréal Tordu began when fiddler Steve Muise and singer Robert Sylvain discovered a mutual interest in the music of their shared French-American heritage.
Band members are Muise on fiddle, vocals, accordian, feet; Sylvain on vocals, guitar, dobro; Ron Bonnevie on drums, percussion; and Pip Walter on upright bass, vocals.
Born in Mogadishu, Somalia, arama began writing songs in a progressive East African style as an immigrant teen in America, in the tradition of the Somali singer-songwriter.
Shortly after moving to Lewiston, his search for a music teacher led him to Greg Boardman and other local musicians interested in the music of the most recent addition to the local cultural landscape.
Joining Jamal and Boardman on fiddle and guitar will be Jeff Taylor on bass and Mike Hansen on percussion.
