Dear Sun Spots: Is there any way perishable food items can be shipped to other states? – No Name, No Town.

Answer: After some inquiries, Sun Spots found that DHL (Airborne Express) offers temperature controlled shipping using their DHL ThermoExpress service. “An innovative and cost-effective temperature control solution for shipping perishables, ThermoExpress includes the container, refrigerant, interior protective bag, special handling and materials, and door-to-door express delivery. Available in a variety of sizes and temperature ranges, ThermoExpress satisfies all of your temperature-sensitive shipping needs.”

For more information and shipping costs, contact DHL ThermalExpress at 1-888-299-2951 or visit the Web site at www.dhl-usa.com, click on “Services-DHL Express” and then click “Optional Services-Learn More,” scroll down to ThermoExpress

The United States Postal Service does not offer this service, however they do allow shipping of perishable items at the sender’s own risk.

UPS (United Parcel Service) also does not provide this protective service but will accept these items for transportation “solely at the shipper’s risk for damage occasioned by exposure to heat or cold.”
