LEWISTON – Helen G. “Darlin” Obermeyer, of Lewiston, died Thursday, July 7, after a short illness.

She was born April 12, 1924, the daughter of Ira and Flossie (Shephard) Gordon of Monmouth. She graduated from Monmouth Academy, salutatorian of her class.

After graduation she worked at Berry Paper Co., where she was employed for more than 20 years. She was last employed at Maine Automobile Dealer’s Assoc. in Augusta, where she worked for nearly 15 years.

An accomplished self-taught pianist, she was also a collector of memories, and she loved all animals.

On Aug. 6, 1959, she married Donald E. Obermeyer, her husband of 45 years, and together they raised three children.

She is survived by her husband, Don, of Lewiston; her daughter, Lisa Hartnett and husband, Mark, of Auburn; her sons, Air Force SM Sgt. Darren Obermeyer of Universal City, Texas; daughter-in-law, Kathy of DeRidder, La., and Robert Lewis and fiance, Sarah, of Auburn; her cherished grandchildren, Joshua Obermeyer of DeRidder, Ben and Emily Hartnett of Auburn; and her dearly loved dogs, Comanche and Missy.

She was predeceased by her parents, two brothers, Merle and Roger Gordon; a sister, Pauline Gray; and an infant brother, Floyd.
