WASHINGTON (AP) – Sasha Victorine’s unassisted goal in the 77th minute Saturday night gave the Kansas City Wizards a 1-0 victory over D.C. United in a battle of last year’s MLS Cup finalists.

Victorine’s fourth goal of the season gave the Wizards their second win in their last eight matches, with four of their league-high seven draws coming during that stretch.

With the victory, the Wizards (6-4-7) took sole possession of third place in the MLS Eastern Conference while D.C. United (6-6-4) dropped to fourth place.

United took 17 shots to Kansas City’s six, including a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal, but lost for the second time in their last five outings.

MetroStars 2, Galaxy 1

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Eddie Gaven scored on his own rebound in the 67th minute, leading the MetroStars to a 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Galaxy on Saturday night.

Galaxy goalie Kevin Hartman blocked Gaven’s header off a pass from Amado Guevara. But Gaven’s second attempt resulted in his fifth goal of the season. The MetroStars improved to 6-4-6.

in posting their second straight home win.

Guevara gave the MetroStars a 1-0 lead on a penalty kick in the 14th minute, but the Galaxy (7-6-4) tied the game in the 49th minute when Herculez Gomez beat MetroStars goalie Zach Wells on a shot that hit the far right post.

It was the lone shot on goal for the Galaxy, who got five saves from Hartman.
