NEW GLOUCESTER – The grades three, four and five multi-age class at the Dunn School presented the Make A Wish Foundation of Maine with a check for $791.26 on June 14.
The students of Deb Vermillion and Christine Petersen raised the funds as part of a class project about community. Kate Vickery, volunteer director, accepted the donation on behalf of the foundation.
The class project began in late fall with a discussion about the importance of giving back to the community. The students each researched a different organization, and together they chose to donate the funds to the Make A Wish Foundation.
In December, the students held a fund-raiser and raised enough money to bring local artists into their classroom to help them create clay masks, clocks and tin etchings. The students sold their artwork at the Fiddlehead International and Cultural Festival held at Pineland Campus on May 14.
