Lisbon people haven’t finished talking against the decision of the School Board to close the Lisbon High School so that all the students in town shall attend the school in the new building at the Falls. The question has been raised that if the board really had any right to close the school when there was far more than the necessary average attendance.

Complimentary remarks concerning H. S. Gerrish, the member of the board from this village who is understood to have opposed the action, are heard. Lisbon people say that if the School Board insists on having the building here closed that they will send their children to Lewiston rather than to the Falls.

50 Years Ago, 1955

Farmington – A big step in the program toward making Sugarloaf Mountain one of the top ski resorts in New England was taken Tuesday, when a contract was signed here for the construction of a Constam T-Bar ski lift on the ski hill at Sugarloaf.

The new lift will have a capacity of 450 persons per hour and is expected to add greatly to the attraction of skiers to the Sugarloaf area. Construction on the lift will start this summer and is expected to be completed in time for use next winter.

25 Years Ago, 1980

A small sign over the door to the studio lights up and the white letters proclaim with no subtleties, the three words which matter most: ON THE AIR. Many of the most popular DJs could probably walk down Main Street at noon and remain unnoticed. But while their faces may not be easily recognized, their voices and personalities are.

Of the late-nighters, Mark Persky has been working around the Lewiston-Auburn area the longest. He has been the swing-shift operator of WBLM-FMs “Blimp:” for six years, hosting “The Greatest Show from Earth” five nights a week, from 1 a.m. to the end of the 8 a.m. newscast.
