PORTLAND – Warren Foster Bogardus, of Farmington, died unexpectedly June 22, at Maine Medical Center.

Born in Toledo, Ohio, on Feb. 13, 1937, to Gaylord and Avis Hill Bogardus, he attended school in Greenhills, Ohio, St. Peter’s School in upper New York and Miami University of Ohio.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for six years and upon discharge worked as an architectural draftsman in the Washington, D.C. area, his last position being chief draftsman at George Washington University.

In 1972, he married and in 1975 moved to Farmington, with his wife, Donna, and daughter, Laura. In later years, his son, Benjamin and daughter, Kristin joined the family.

He worked several years as a draftsman at International Paper Co., in Jay, and retired as a woodworker in 2002 from W.A. Mitchell in Temple.

A member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Wilton, he took an active roll in the life of the church and served as lay minister and chalice bearer. For many years, he sang bass in a choral group at the Easter sunrise services on Voter Hill.

He was a past member of the Sports Car Club of America, George Washington University Grotto Club (spelunking), Maine Appalachian Trail Club, the Mount Blue Chordsmen (SPEBSQSA), and the Farmington Polar Bear Club. He was lately involved with Literacy Volunteers, Farmington Serve, 82 High St. board and WECO.

He loved camping, hiking, kayaking and fishing – his average catch grew to approximately 0.7 fish per year – and brewing his own beer.

He is remembered with love by his family and many friends.
