WINTHROP – Linwood Newton Felt, 89, of Winthrop, died Tuesday, July 12, surrounded by his family at Maine Veterans Home in Augusta.
He was born in Bryant Pond, on April 29, 1916, the son of Albert N. and Mary (Brooks) Felt. He graduated from Woodstock High School in 1933 and also attended the University of Maine at Orono.
During World War II, he served two years in the European Theatre of operations, based in Italy.
He was a past master and a 60-year member of Franklin Grange P of H of Bryant Pond.
Throughout most of his life he worked in the agricultural field as a herdsman, until his retirement in 1984. He was a dedicated husband, and a warm and loving father and grandfather to his family.
Over the years he was an avid gardener, producing bountiful flower and vegetable gardens while caring for his cultivated strawberries and raspberries. He also enjoyed reading, hunting and was an enthusiastic Yankee’s fan.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Beatrice (Cushman) Felt; two sons, Robert C. Felt and wife, Connie, of Augusta, and Lindon C. Felt and wife, Melinda, of Dixfield; two daughters, Linda (Felt) Ward and husband, Bill, of Steep Falls, and Catherine (Felt) Gray and husband, Weston, of Rockland; one brother, Richard Felt of Bryant Pond; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Lester of East Cornith; and two sisters, Alice Roberts of Locke Mills and Marion Strout of Mechanic Falls.
