FARMINGTON – A Lawrence High School teacher and coach has been hired as the new athletic director at Mt. Blue High School.

SAD 9 directors unanimously approved Superintendent Michael Cormier’s nomination of Scott R. Walker of Waterville as the new athletic director Tuesday, Cormier said Thursday. The board agreed to enter a two-year contract with Walker with a first-year salary of $40,000.

Walker is replacing high school Athletic Director Bonnie Levesque, who has taken a position as principal of Madison Junior High School.

Walker is a 1991 graduate of Lawrence High School in Fairfield and 1995 graduate of Dartmouth College in New Hampshire.

He has taught English at Lawrence High School since 2002 and has participated in several sports during his school years as well as coached several sports at the high school and college level, according to his resume.

Walker was chosen for his experience, interest in administration and his experience of coaching several sports, Cormier said.

SAD 9 directors also accepted the resignation Tuesday of high school Assistant Principal John Cook and approved a requested transfer of Mt. Blue Middle School Assistant Principal and Athletic Director Monique Poulin to high school assistant principal to replace Cook, Cormier said.

Cook has taken a position in special education in Union 133 in the Windsor area, Cormier said, where former Mt. Blue High School Principal Greg Potter is now superintendent. Cook’s last day is Aug. 15.

Poulin has been the assistant principal and athletic director at the middle school since the fall of 1999. Poulin will work a 205-day year for $58,424, which is the same salary Cook was paid, and will keep her per-diem rate about the same as she earns as the middle school assistant principal, Cormier noted in the agenda packet.

The board also agreed to increase short-term substitute pay $5 a day, bringing the daily substitute pay to $55 for a high school graduate, $60 for a person with a college degree and $70 for a person with a college degree and certification, Cormier said.

The board also unanimously re-elected Director Ray Glass of Farmington as chairman of the board and Neil Stinneford of Weld as vice chairman.

Directors Charisse Keach of Chesterville, Ted Ellis of New Vineyard and Stinneford were elected to serve on the Finance Committee.
