FARMINGTON – A Salem woman was indicted by the Franklin County grand jury Wednesday on felony and misdemeanor charges of unlawful furnishing of drugs and endangering the welfare of a child.

Stacy A. Wills, 30, admitted during an interview with Cpl. Stephen Charles of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department to giving a 4-year-old child one-half of a pill of one of her own medications, Charles said Thursday.

Wills was baby-sitting the girl at her Salem home over the Fourth of July weekend. The girl’s mother said the child was acting impaired after she returned home – like she was stoned or drunk, according to another adult member of the household.

She was lethargic, her eyes were rolled back in her head and she was drooling, Detective Tom White said Thursday.

“She was whacked right out,” he said.

At the suggestion of police, the girl’s mother brought her to Franklin Memorial Hospital, where she tested positive for having Valium in her system.

Wills said she gave the girl her own medication, not Valium, which she knew the youngster had previously been prescribed but was no longer taking, Charles said. Wills said she gave her the pill because her regular medication did not seem to be working. Wills denied giving the girl Valium or anything else.

Wills also admitted to giving three Valium pills to the mother saying she thought it would help her sleep after the mother turned over the three pills to police.

Nobody at the victim’s home has a prescription for Valium, said Charles, adding that the case is still under investigation.

Wills was also indicted on charges of aggravated unlawful furnishing of drugs and unlawful furnishing of drugs as well as endangering the welfare of a child.
