PORTLAND, Maine (AP) – Javier Cardona drove in three runs with a homer and a double, and Rafael Perez pitched seven strong innings as the Akron Aeros trounced the Portland Sea Dogs 8-1 Friday in the Eastern League.

Jonathan Van Every also belted a homer for the Aeros, while David Murphy homered for Portland’s only run.

After two scoreless innings, the Aeros, (50-41) claimed a 2-0 lead when Van Every and Cardona hit back to back solo homers in the top of the third. Murphy’s shot over the right centerfield fence put the Sea Dogs (48-41) on the scoreboard in the fourth, but the Aeros capitalized on an error to add three runs in the fifth.

After Ryan Mulhern doubled and scored in the sixth, Cardona’s two-run double made it 8-1 in the eighth.

Perez (2-1) struck out four and walked three. Portland started Charlie Zink (5-4) took the loss.
