SOUTH PORTLAND – Bernard B. Howard, 77, beloved husband of Betty Hunnewell, passed into his glory on July 7, after a very brief illness. He was surrounded by loved ones at his home on Landry Circle in South Portland.
He was born May 18, 1928, to Herbert and Methal Yeaton Holbrook. He was a superintendent at Aziscohos Dam in Wilson Mills and Errol Dam in Errol, N.H.
He was in the U.S. Navy and a part-time sheriff in Oxford County. After his retirement, he worked for Penski Trucking in Scarborough. He was a lifelong learner and a Jack-of-all-trades.
He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Betty Hunnewell Howard. Together they had 11 children, Richard Howard, Debra Taylor, Douglas Howard, Daniel Howard, Dale Howard, Diane Howard, Darcy Haggan, Andrew Holbrook, Stanya Dorr, Susan James and Steve Holbrook; 24 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
