RUMFORD – George W. Tuttle Sr., 81, of Rumford, died on July 7, at his home with his beloved wife by his side.
Born on March 14, 1924, in Portland, to Henry and Dorothy (Currier) Tuttle, he attended schools in Portland.
He served on the USS Conway DD507 during World War II in the U.S. Navy. He served in the Navy for 27 years.
He was a truck, bus and taxi driver in the Portland area for many years. He was also a bus driver for the Bethel area.
He loved the outdoors, camping and fishing, hunting, taking rides with his family and spending time with his grandson, Elijah McLean.
He is survived by his wife, Callie (Clark) Tuttle, of 19 years; two sons, George Jr., of Carthage and Timothy of Rumford; three daughters, Esther Thomas II, Megan Tuttle and her fianc, Joshua McLean, and Cindy Tuttle, all of Rumford; nine grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Henry and his wife, Rose, of Berwick, Robert and his wife, Marge, of Worcester, Mass., and Irving Tuttle of Portland; three sisters, Blanche Johnson of Portland, Pauline Sherman of Parsonfield and Delia Thurber of Tennessee; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son, Frank Sr.; three grandchildren, Frank Tuttle Jr., Deedee Tuttle and Frank Moore; one brother, James Tuttle; and one sister, Maud Farrington.
