Burton says attendance and retail sales have dropped by as much as 50 percent in the area since the Old Man of the Mountain profile fell two years ago.
A museum featuring the history of the Old Man is in the works, and Burton says another suggestion is to replace the Old Man with a fiberglass or glass replica where people could go inside and get a view of the entire area.
