AUBURN – The Hilton Garden Hotel on Auburn’s Riverbank was the setting for the gathering of graduates of the ELHS Class of 1940 as they celebrated their 65th reunion. Of the 50 who attended, 29 were class members. Out-of-state members came from Amherst, N.Y.; Hartford, Conn., Cherry Hill, N.J.; Merrimack, N.H.; and Norton, Mass.

Class President Claire V. Chesley Jr. welcomed the group. Following the buffet lunch, tribute was paid to 24 classmates who have died since the last reunion in 2002. The graduating class numbered 223 with 116 now known to be deceased.

New printed class directories were prepared for distribution by Arlene Hawkins. Items of class interest were displayed along with several scrapbooks of Webster School events in addition to those of ELHS years. A notebook of letters from those not able to attend provided much interest. Door prizes were arranged and drawn under the direction of Arlene Hawkins.

The next reunion will be held in three years as determined by those present. The committee in charge of the day’s activities included Arlene Wallingford Hawkins, Lucille Bailey Welch, Bobbi Titus Mixer, Aletha Meade Blackmore, Phyllis Tolman Curtis, Barbara Olson Sylvester and Chairman Marion Hatch Chesley.
