Dear Sun Spots: You have helped me in the past and I hope you can again. I wondered if someone out there has some old sheet music they would like to get rid of. One of my favorites would be marches by Steinmetz. Also, I have been taking French horn lessons but my teacher is moving out of town. I would appreciate hearing from someone who gives French horn lessons. I am a senior citizen, have had three years of lessons and would like to continue playing if possible. I can be reached at (207) 777-7194. – John Marquis, Lewiston.
Dear Sun Spots: Could you please print an address for Oprah Winfrey. I’m not looking for show tickets, I just want to write to her or whoever handles her mail. – No Name, No Town.
Answer: You can write Oprah at Harpo Productions, P.O. Box 909715, Chicago, Ill., 60607, or Oprah Winfrey Show, Harpo Studios, 1058 W. Washington St., Chicago, Ill., 60607. You can also write Oprah on her Web site at www.Oprah.com, click “e-mail us.”
Dear Sun Spots: I’m looking for the address of the “The Big Book of Buttons.” It’s the only complete book of illustrations and prices. Thank you for your help. – No Name, Lewiston.
Answer: “The Big Book of Buttons” by Elizabeth Hughes and Marion Lester is published by New Leaf Publishers. You can contact them at New Leaf Publishers, 50 Benjamin River Road, Sedgwick, ME 04676-9729, or e-mail them at [email protected].
This button collectors “bible” was published in 1992, has 818 pages and is available used at Amazon.com starting, surprisingly, at $375 for “very good” condition and ranging up to $787.50 for “like new.”
According to an Amazon.com book reviewer, “many have written to the publishers several times asking them to re-release this out-of-print book. The publishers declared that “no, it is too expensive to reprint,” or “no, we are absolutely not printing this book again.” Guess what? Save your pennies! “The Big Book of Buttons” third edition is being released next summer.
However, Sun Spots contacted New Leaf Publishers to find out if the reprinting rumor were true. Publisher Tom Schroth replied saying that they “have no plans to publish the book again and the authors have made it clear to them (the publisher) that they do not wish to republish to book.” Attempts to reach the authors to confirm or dispel the rumor were unsuccessful.
Dear Sun Spots: I need your help again. I have a set of dishes that I would like to know the history and value of. On the back is the following: “Governor Clinton, Syracuse China, Made in America.” It is a set of eight with additional serving pieces. Any information would be greatly appreciated. – No Name, No Town.
