This is the time of year to take the gathering outside. Here are some outdoor entertaining tips from tableware maker Libbey:
• Invite guests three weeks in advance. For a large gathering, estimate that 70 percent to 80 percent of the invitees will show.
• Estimate three alcoholic drinks and four to five appetizers per guest.
• For an inexpensive centerpiece, wrap a shoe box in white paper and fill it with fruit or seasonal flowers held in place by green foam. For a party that’s a bit more formal, use different-shaped mirrors on the table with simple glass votive candle holders placed on top.
• Use martini glasses to serve chilled soups or appetizers.
• Combine various colors and shapes of plates and platters.
• Don’t be afraid to bring glassware outside. It’s more stylish than plastic cups.
