LEWISTON – The Auburn-Lewiston Rotary Breakfast Club will hold its annual Great Duck Race during the Great Falls Balloon Festival. This is the 13th year that the fleet of yellow rubber duckies will be released into the canal on Main Street at noon Sunday, Aug. 21.

Each duck will carry a tag with the name of a sponsor; the first duck over the finish line will win $1,000. Tags are $5, available from members of the Auburn-Lewiston Rotary Breakfast Club. Flocks of 15 may be purchased for $50.

“This is a really fun event; we hope a lot of people will join us for the race,” said Johanna Lloyd, club president. “But more important is that the money we raise goes to help local charities like the Boys and Girls Club, Camp Susan Curtis and the Good Shepherd Food Pantry.”

Rotary International is a nonprofit service organization. The local breakfast club provides more than $20,000 a year in grants to local and international charities, with funds raised through the Trip-of-the-Month raffle, an annual golf tournament in June and the duck race.
