LEWISTON – The Delray Beach, Florida-based Levenger Foundation has made donations of audio equipment to Lewiston’s Faithworks, as well as a $1,500 contribution to the Lewiston Public Library for the purchase of audiobooks.
The Levenger Foundation was founded by Steve Leveen, president of Levenger Co., to support literacy and literature. Faithworks is a contract packaging and assembly company which offers flexible schedules and support to people with barriers to traditional employment. Leveen became familiar with this as a result of a close business relationship between Levenger and Lewiston-based Geiger, Faithworks’ largest client. Leveen toured the Faithworks facility and shortly thereafter coordinated with Geiger Executive Vice President Peter Geiger to donate several portable tape players to Faithworks to allow workers to listen to books on tape while working.
“I’m delighted to join with you to bring the blessings of audiobooks to the employees at Faithworks,” wrote Leveen in a letter to Geiger. “It is my hope that some hard-working adults can discover and seize their well-read lives through audiobooks, as I did.”
In addition to the audio equipment, the foundation has also made a $1,500 donation to the Lewiston Public Library for purchase of additional audiobooks.
“We’re very appreciative of this gift from Levenger,” said Rick Speer, director of the Lewiston Public Library. “We’re hoping this will help us reach out to and connect with a whole new group of library users.”
The sentiment was shared by Faithworks’ executive director Paul Rubin. “This is a great opportunity for our work force, who may not have previously had the access or desire to visit the library or to read. We’re hoping that this will become a stepping stone for them.”
Established in 1987 by Leveen and his wife, Lori Granger Leveen, Levenger (www.levenger.com) offers high-end reading and writing products through its catalog, Web site and stores in Boston, Chicago and Delray Beach.
Founded in 1878, Geiger is a respected leader in the promotional products industry, providing quality calendars, diaries and other promotional products to businesses. Geiger is also the publisher of the Farmers’ Almanac, America’s most trusted Almanac since 1818.
