AUBURN – The city will borrow $1.7 million to repair roofs and windows at three Auburn schools.
The loan is part of an interest-free package through the state of Maine and managed by the Maine Municipal Bond Bank.
The money will pay for roof repairs at Auburn Middle School and Fairview School and window replacement at Walton School and Auburn Middle School.
The loan is a 10-year package. About $747,000 of it will be forgiven, according to City Manager Pat Finnigan.
City councilors also discussed about $1 million in general debt earmarked for capital improvements at Auburn schools. That money would pay for roof repairs to the Walton School, new buses and paving work around other schools.
Councilors are scheduled to vote on the first reading of that bond package at their Aug. 1 meeting.
