PORTLAND, Maine (AP) – Chris Roberson belted a two-run homer and Randy Ruiz and Jesus Merchan knocked doubles as the Reading Phillies defeated the Portland Sea Dogs 5-2 Tuesday.

The Phillies (47-50) won their third in a row; the loss was the fifth straight for Portland (48-45).

Ruiz’ double was the key hit as Reading scored one run in the top of the first. Jared Sandberg’s RBI double tied it in the bottom of the inning.

After Merchan’s RBI double sparked two runs for Reading in the top of the fourth, Jim Buckley’s RBI double made it 3-2 half an inning later.

Roberson’s two-run homer sent the Phillies ahead 5-2 in the top of the ninth.

Reading starter Cole Hamels (2-0) struck out five, walked five and gave up two earned runs over six innings to earn the win, while Ryan Cameron notched his eighth save. Portland*s Gabbard Kason (7-8) took the loss.
