Choral director named conductor
PLYMOUTH, N.H. (AP) – Plymouth State University’s choral director has been named the principal guest conductor for the Vietnam National Opera and Ballet in Hanoi.
The invitation to Daniel Perkins followed a three-week visit to Vietnam, during which he conducted three performances with the orchestra and chorus and members of the New Hampshire Master Choral, which he also conducts.
The concerts were part of the 30-year celebration of the end of the war in Vietnam.
As guest conductor, Perkins will return three times a year to work with the Vietnamese musicians and conduct concerts, beginning in January 2006.
Prisoner Assault
MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) – A Hillsborough County jail inmate has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to punching a guard and wrecking a fire sprinkler.
Jason Kenyon, 23, of Manchester was sentenced Tuesday to 3-1/2 to 7 years in prison.
