EASTPORT – Charles F. “Chick” Pottle passed away on July 20, after a brief illness.

He was born Dec. 18, 1926, in Hampden, the son of Lucy E. (Sherman) and Eder F. Pottle.

A veteran of World War II, he proudly served in the Navy on the USS Smith in the South Pacific. He received his honorable discharge in 1946.

Upon returning from the Navy, he wed Mary E. Avery. They lived in Perry.

A mechanic by trade, he owned and operated Pottle’s Garage on Perry corner for 22 years. He was an active member of the VFW Post 558 in Eastport and also a member of the Masonic Grange 78 in Pembroke.

He was a train enthusiast – collecting and building scale model trains and traveling to many areas to ride a railroad. He also had a passion for baseball and greatly enjoyed watching the Red Sox.

He is survived by his longtime companion, Lena Malloch, of Eastport; three sons, James H. Pottle of Manchester, N.H., Jeffrey R. Pottle and wife, Suzanne, of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Charles E. Pottle of Eastport; two daughters, Mary-Jean E. Robinson and husband, Craig, of Dresden, and Jacqueline A. Schomaker and husband, Jon, of Greene; 12 grandchildren, Jeffrey, Joseph and Jason Pottle, Adam, Patrick and Kyle Moore, Nicholas and Hilary Pottle, Mary, Donny and Jonathan Schomaker, and Emerson Webster; four great-grandchildren, Tyler, Casey and Madeline Pottle, and Magdalena Woodmoore; one brother, David Pottle and wife, Joanne, of Bath; and two sisters, Annie Bowden of Bath, and Irma DeWitt and husband, Bill, of Brunswick.

He was predeceased by his parents; former wife, Mary; daughter, Phyllis; grandchild, Brandi; and his brother, Raymond Pottle.
