GREENE – Michael Lane Trautman will entertain at the Sawyer Memorial, 371 Sawyer Road, on Thursday and Friday, Aug. 4 and 5. His program, “My Misspent Youth,” a combination of gags, antics, mime, juggling, magic and mayhem, will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, with a 2 p.m. Friday matinee for children, who should be accompanied by an adult.

Mime is more than a white-faced, silent performer of invisible walls and ropes. Mime is the use of the physical (the whole body) in acting. “My Misspent Youth” brings to life a collection of zany characters in a 45-minute performance designed to teach students to recognize and appreciate the art of mime in its many guises.

Interweaving storytelling, clown theater, magic and illusionary pantomime, each sketch carries lessons, with an emphasis on reading, writing and self-esteem. The show also promotes listening skills, creativity, curiosity, innovation and imagination.

Trautman has been performing in schools throughout North America since 1976. He has given more than 3,000 performances of his school assembly programs.

He has been a featured performer at the New York International Clown Theater Festival, the Calgary, the Edmonton, the Vancouver and the Winnipeg International Children’s Theater festivals. Last year, he was the star clown in the national tour of “OOPS! The Big Apple Circus Stage Show.”

Admission is free and the auditorium is air-conditioned. Doors will open one hour before the shows. For more information, call 946-5311.
