The following farms will be open for Open Farm Day on Sunday in Oxford County:

CARTERS FARM Location: Oxford, Route 26 Hours: 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Type of farm: Vegetable, farm market and x-country ski trails Activities: There will be balloons and games for the kids. The Carters will explain how to extend the season with row covers and how to grow vegetables without using pesticides. Free refreshments. Visitors may hike or bike on the cross-country ski trails. Rentals of canoes and kayaks will be available to use in the nearby river. There will also be a surprise presentation. Directions: From Route 26 in Oxford (Welchville), 200 yards south of the junction of Routes 121 and 26. From South Paris, 6 miles south on Route 26.

HARVEST MOON PRODUCE Location: West Paris, 11 Kittridge Road Hours: 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Type of farm: Sustainable fruit and vegetable farm Activities: The farm grows mixed vegetables and perennial plants on a 2-acre plot using sustainable farming methods. The owners market their products at three local farmers’ markets. Fresh vegetables will be offered for taste comparisons. Directions: From Route 26 in West Paris, take Route 219 east, go 3.2 miles, take a right onto Tueltown Road and go 1.5 miles, take a left onto Kittridge Brook Road (dirt road). Go .2 miles, farm is on the left.

HEDGEHOG HILL FARM Location: East Sumner, Bonney Road/54 Hedgehog Hill Road Hours: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Type of farm: Diversified organic herb and flower farm Activities: The gardens include designed herb, annual and perennial beds as well as acres of production plants. There is a shop filled with products made from the farm’s own harvests and a small library. Greenhouses are filled with popular and unusual plants. At 2 p.m., there will be a tour of the garden and a lecture on herbs or everlastings. For more information check the Web at www.HedgehogHillFarm.com. Location: From South Paris or Lewiston-Auburn, Take Route 117 to Buckfield. Follow signs in Buckfield, by bridge and church. From Augusta, take Route 202 to Winthrop, Route 133 to Wayne; Route 219 to East Sumner. Watch for a sign opposite the church.

MORRILL FARM Location: Sumner, 85 Morrill Road Hours: 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Type of farm: Diversified certified organic Activities: There are 217 acres, including many miles of nature trails through which the Nezinscot River flows. The Perrons do farming as it was done in the past. Poultry, beef, chicken and hogs are raised on the farm. You will see butter-making, spinning, weaving and tours of the barn with horse-drawn equipment. There will be picnic areas set up for those who wish to bring lunches. Directions: From Auburn, take Route 4 to Turner, take a left on Route 117 to Buckfield, take a right on Route 140 to East Sumner, take a left on Route 219 to Litchfield Variety, turn right on Greenwood Road, go 1 mile to Morrill Road (left). From South Paris, take Route 26 north and go right on Route 219 in West Paris. Go 8 miles to Litchfield Variety and go straight onto Greenwood Road, 1 mile to Morrill Road (follow Morrill Farm B&B signs).

MOUNTAIN BROOK FARM Location: South Paris, 219 Streaked Mountain Road Hours: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Type of farm: Alpaca Activities: Visit more than 40 exotic alpacas at this family farm in the shadow of Streaked Mountain. Alpacas, native to South America, are smaller cousins of llamas and boast a very fine, luxurious fiber. They are gentle, curious and come in a beautiful array of colors. There will be a display area of end products and demonstrations of processing alpaca fiber, including carding, spinning, knitting and children’s crafts. Directions: From Turner, take Route 117 west to the center of Buckfield. Continue on Route 117 and go about 5.5 miles. Look for the intersection of Lovejoy Road and Streaked Mountain. Take that left and follow for 1 mile to the gray farm on the right. From South Paris center, take Route 117 east about 6 miles to intersection of Lovejoy Road and Streaked Mountain. Take the right and follow for 1 mile to gray farm on right.

PLEASANT VALLEY FARM Location: West Paris, 1 Gates Hill Road Hours: 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Type of farm: Registered Haflinger draft show ponies Activities: Two-acre farm is full of various animals and features Haflinger show ponies. We will have brochures on the ponies and the breed. Also there will be different driving events throughout the day. Location: From South Paris, take Route 26 north for about 4 miles. Turn right onto Stearns Hill Road, go .7 miles and turn right onto Gates Hill Road and left into the driveway. From Bethel, take Route 26 south. Go about 4 miles beyond the Trap Corner Store. Turn left onto Stearns Hill Road, right onto Gates Hill Road and left into the driveway.

POOH CORNER FARM Location: Mason Township, Bog Road Hours: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Type of farm: Diversified farm with greenhouses Activities: A 10,000-square-foot production greenhouse with cut flowers, perennials and pumpkins. There will be a short interpretative talk on the history of farming at 2 p.m. There will be animals to pet and refreshments will be available. Handicapped accessible. Location: Take Route 2 west from Bethel to MDOT sign for farm, take a left onto Bog Road. Farm is about 2.5 miles down the road. Look for greenhouses.

STONEHEART FARM Location: South Paris, 285 Streaked Mountain Road Hours: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Type of farm: Sheep Activities: Raises Columbia sheep for market lambs, breeding stock, wool and meat. Their fiber is excellent for spinning and knitting. Wool products, yarn and frozen lamb will be available for sale. Tess, the farm’s working border collie, will give you an enthusiastic welcome and there will be border collie demonstrations at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Information on sheep production and management is free. Lunch is available. Directions: From Route 4, take Route 117 south and go about 11.3 miles, turn left onto Streaked Mountain Road. The farm is 1.3 miles on the right. From South Paris, take Route 117 north about 4.5 miles, turn right onto Streaked Mountain Road, farm is 1.3 miles on right.

TROIKA DRAFTS AND THE SHOEING SHOP Location: Hebron, 955 Buckfield Road Hours: 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Type of farm: Working draft horse farm Activities: New England’s only full-service draft horse facility. The farm offers lessons and training, as well as on-site farrier and harness shops. Though all breeds are welcome, the farm specializes in Shires. Spring foals to retired drafts, many near 30 years old, are available for petting. There will be informational displays and short workshops on working draft horses. Tours of the woodlot and hayfield operations will be provided, weather permitting. Refreshments and restrooms available on site. Directions: From Auburn, take Minot Avenue to Route 229, follow to West Minot. From Mechanic Falls, take Route 124 to West Minot. From West Minot village, take Route 124 to East Hebron. The farm is 2 miles past Hebron Pines Campground. From Route 4 in Turner, take Route 117 toward Buckfield, turn right onto Route 124. Troika Drafts is 2 miles past Roundabout Farm Perennials.
