BOSTON (AP) – A 22-year veteran Massachusetts state trooper was killed while on duty on Friday when his motorcycle crashed in South Boston.

Trooper Vincent P. Cila was assigned to Troop F at Logan International Airport, state police said.

Cila was traveling west on the Massachusetts Turnpike when his bike crashed at about 4:35 p.m. at the ramp to Interstate 93 southbound, police said. There were no other vehicles involved.

He was taken to Boston Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. Cila leaves behind a wife and two children.

The crash shut down Exit 25 and backed up traffic during rush hour.

The cause of the accident was still being investigated.
