FARMINGTON – Due to the response to the fourth annual Kid’s Stuff Sale held April 30, 39 children in Franklin County will attend camp this summer.
The Western Maine Summer Camp Scholarship Fund awarded $2,200 in scholarships for the season. Campers will go to a variety of settings, such as Anne Mallet’s Bug and Butterfly Camp, Farmington Park and Recreation camps, UMF day camps, Music Together and Foot Hills Arts.
The fund-raiser started as a way for children to help their peers by donating their used toys to be sold. Since then it has included donations of clothing, furniture and gift certificates from area businesses. The sales have quadrupled over the past couple of years, allowing families who may have never considered camp an option to send their kids to camp.
The Franklin County Children’s Task Force will accept applications for next summer beginning June 1, 2006. The scholarships are awarded to children ages 2 through 10 from the Franklin County area. They are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis to children who qualify. Stop by the task force office at 113 Church St. or visit the Web at www.fcctf.org for more information.
