GREENWOOD – The Maine Conservation School has received a $5,100 grant from the Plum Creek Foundation to help support the forestry curriculum in the school’s summer camp conservation programming.
The grant will pay for a college forestry student to work at the school developing forestry-based curriculum and outdoor classrooms, teaching forestry-related field lessons and updating the school’s tree farm forest management plan.
The summer camp season began in June and runs though Aug. 26. Programs vary from one to four weeks.
For almost 50 years, the Maine Conservation School’s camp and school programs have introduced children and adults to a blend of outdoor fun, environmental education and practical outdoor skills. Each year more than 1,000 young people from across the state participate in programs designed to help them develop a conservation ethic and embrace Maine’s outdoor heritage.
