•The earthquake shock which was felt at Leeds Junction Saturday morning shook up the houses pretty well; bricks were rattled from chimneys; dishes broken and underpinnings of some dwellings disturbed. It occurred at 5.10 A.M.
•Yesterday was a scorcher. There has been nothing hotter this season, here in Lewiston. Even the ice man had difficulty in keeping cool yesterday afternoon. At 3 P.M. the thermometer showed 92 in the shade and remained at the 92 mark until after 4 P.M.

Officials of the Hillcrest Poultry Co. of Maine and Director John J. Maloney Jr. of the Lewiston Industrial Development Department last night announced plans for the erection of a $500,000 Lewiston poultry processing plant which eventually will employ 300 persons and represent a total property investment of one million dollars.
Company officials said the 37,434 square foot, single story plant, at which between 40,000 and 50,000 birds will be processed each day, will be the largest and most modern of its type this side of the Del-Mar-Va Peninsula.

•For those who attended Lewiston’s fourth Franco-American Festival on Sunday, the celebration’s motto “C’est Si Bon” (It’s so good) seemed to be an appropriate way to describe the muggy opening day activities in Kennedy Park.
•Farmington Falls – One of the best! That was the general consensus of the spectators at the annual Farmington Falls Firemen’s Field Day which opened Saturday morning with a colorful parade.
•Bethel – Mollyockett Days were a huge success on Saturday and Sunday, with approximately 800 persons at a time on the common and an estimate of 3,000 persons participating in the Saturday events.
