I have read about frequent car accidents along Route 4 from Auburn to Turner. I know why. I drive that road every day of the week. Every day, someone tries to pass me or speed by me. The posted speed limit is usually ignored.

Recently, as I was traveling at the posted speed, a tractor-trailer passed me by driving in the breakdown lane. I was scared to death that he was going to slam into me. On another day, a young girl driving behind me was right on the bumper of my car. I was traveling at 45 miles per hour. She tried to pass me where there were two solid lines with another car coming in the opposite direction, plainly visible. As this young person tried to pass me, I had to quickly move my car into the breakdown lane to let her pass and avoid being hit by oncoming traffic.

Perhaps if Route 4 were patrolled more often by both state and local police, maybe some of the unsafe drivers would be caught and fewer accidents would happen.

I am afraid to travel on Route 4, but I have no choice. I have to get to work. Incidents like these happen to me daily. I am a woman in my late 40s and would like to live long enough to see my late 50s.

Drivers need to slow down, for everyone’s safety.
