LEWISTON – Richard Martin, director for “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast” is holding auditions at 6:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 1 and 2, at Lewiston Middle School on Central Avenue. Auditioners should use the school’s back entrance. If people are unable to make these dates, they should call the director at 754-9828 for other arrangements.
The audition will be divided into three units. The first portion is vocal, the second is choreography and the third is dialogue. Auditioners must participate in all three portions of the audition in order to be considered for a role.
Auditioners are asked to wear comfortable, loose, but not baggy clothing and to avoid sandals and boots. Any questions or requests for perusal scripts can be addressed to the producer, Karen Mayo at 346-6140, or the director.
“Disney’s Beauty and the Beast” will be presented at Lewiston-Auburn Community Little Theatre on Oct. 6 to 16.
Roles to be filled include:
Belle, a vibrant, intelligent young beauty who wants more out of the life than an ordinary existence; the Beast, a prince transformed into a terrifying beast for his lack of compassion, with a loving heart buried far beneath his gruff exterior; Gaston, a vain, egotistical, ultra-masculine villain determined to marry Belle; and Maurice, Belle’s eccentric inventor father.
Also, Cogsworth, a tightly-wound, enchanted mantle clock and the head of the Beast’s household; Mrs. Potts, a warmhearted, maternal enchanted teapot; Lumiere, a suave, debonair enchanted candelabra; Chip, an enchanted teacup; Babette, an enchanted feather-duster; Madame de la Grande Bouche, a former opera diva turned enchanted wardrobe; Lefou, Gaston’s bumbling sidekick; and Monsieur D’Arque, the creepy, scheming proprietor of the local insane asylum.
Other characters and a description of the vocal range and songs sung by each character are posted on the theater’s Web site at www.laCLT.com.
