I liked the editorial July 22 on red-light running and the use of cameras to help curb this increasing problem. As part of the team that ran the pilot project in Lewiston-Auburn, I appreciate that interest in increasing safety in our communities.
The only correction that I would like to point out is that the cities of Lewiston-Auburn would not have received any money if tickets had been issued rather than the warnings. All monies collected from tickets go to the state’s General Fund, not the communities that write the tickets. The Legislature would benefit from the increase in revenue.
Thanks for the comments, and I hope that the efforts to make our streets safer is successful.
