West Paris events

WEST PARIS – West Paris Grange 298 will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, at its hall, 4 Church St.

West Paris Vacation Bible School closing program will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, at the Mission Congregational Church, Church Street.

The West Paris Senior Citizens will meet for the annual cookout at noon Tuesday, Aug. 9, at the home of Bertha DeHaas, 35 Church St.

Ring McKeen Post 151, American Legion, and Auxiliary will attend the County Council cookout at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, at the Maine Veterans Home, High Street, South Paris.

Lakes meeting

WOODSTOCK – The annual meeting of the Community Lakes Association will be held Saturday, Aug. 6, at the Maine Conservation School, Bryant Pond.

There will be a social time from 8:30 to 9 a.m. At 9, Bryan Lewis, fisheries biologist, will give a presentation on issues related to his profession. A brief business meeting will follow. All are welcome.

Bridge play

NORWAY – Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge winners on Friday were: first, Pete Cummings and Dick Allen; second, Nancy Woods and Suzanne Andrews; third, Anna Cormier and Woody Mercier; fourth, Pat and Mike Quinn. Also placing were Donna and Ozzie Swett.

Summer people were welcomed back Interested bridge players are encouraged to join at 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 5, at the Fare Share Coop Commons, 445 Main St. A partner is guaranteed. Ranger to speak

PINKHAM NOTCH – “A Day in the Life of a Backcountry Ranger” will be featured at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, as part of the continuing Wednesday Night with a Ranger speaker series in the White Mountain National Forest.

Backcountry Ranger Spencer Bleadorn will share the ups and downs of hiking the backcountry of the White Mountains at the session at the Appalachian Mountain Club’s Pinkham Notch Visitor Center on Route 16.
