SOUTH PARIS – David Paul Welborne II, 80, of Bridgton, died Friday, July 22, at the Maine Veterans Home in South Paris.

He was born May 10, 1925, in North Wilkesboro, N.C., to David and Emily Welborne.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a radio operator in dive bombers. He was best known as a father and an entrepreneur who was very successful building popular radio stations.

During a 35-year career in broadcasting, he owned six radio stations and managed many others. He was an innovator who designed many creative marketing campaigns for his radio stations and customers. He will be remembered for helping launch many successful careers in the broadcast industry.

He also loved all types of music, with jazz being his favorite. In his spare time, he showed his creative talents through painting and drawing.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Lise Welborne; two daughters, Starr Zolton of Laredo, Texas, and Kim Bonnell of Bella Vista, Ark.; three sons, David Paul Welborne III of Cumberland, Md., Daniel Welborne of Houston, Texas, and Patrick Welborne of Springfield, Mass.; two stepdaughters, Debbie Nadeau of Lewiston and Lisa Adams of Quincy, Ill.; two stepsons, Richard Cloutier of Lewiston and Rodney Cloutier of Turner; a brother, Curt Welborne of Whiteville, N.C.; a sister, Louise Mitchell of Greensboro, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and five stepgrandchildren.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Jenny and Ruth.
