NEWRY – Selectmen at Monday night’s meeting learned that the town may have a problem with one of three bridges on Branch Road.

Administrative Assistant Loretta Berry said Tuesday afternoon that an area contractor had been sent up the road to examine the bridges after she received a call from a Maine Department of Transportation official.

She said MDOT had received a complaint that three beams had shifted on a bridge.

The town, Berry said, usually has problems with the road’s last bridge over Branch Brook due to high water and ice.

“It’s the town’s responsibility to fix it,” she said.
