Yard, bake sale

WEST PARIS – The West Paris Historical Society will hold its annual inside yard and bake sale from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6. There will be hot dogs, soda, coffee and sweets for sale also. The society is looking for donated used items for the sale. Club supper

NORWAY – The Heywood Club of Norway will hold a public supper from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13. The menu will include baked beans, casseroles, chicken pies and pies and cakes. Talk on apples

WATERFORD – The Waterford Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, the Wilkins Community House, Plummer Hill Road.

After a short business meeting, George Stilphen, local pomologist and author of an identification guide, “Apples of Maine,” will give a talk on some of the interesting aspects of the more than 700 varieties of apples known to have been grown in Maine.

Stilphen’s book represents the culmination of a life-long fascination with heirloom apples.

The public is welcome. A potluck dessert will follow the program.

Church music

WATERFORD – Music will ring out from the Village Church on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 13 and 14. The public is invited to the Waterford Congregational Church at the foot of Plummer Hill Road at 7:30 p.m. Saturday for “An Evening of Music,” a concert of musicians performing a variety of selections.

There is a suggested donation of $10 to benefit the church’s ongoing programs. Tickets will be available at the door.

The second annual Music Sunday will be held Aug. 14, featuring a choir of 40 men and women performing a largely musical worship service beginning at 9:30 a.m. All are welcome.

LIMESTONE – Daniel Hayes, son of Steve and Terry Hayes of Buckfield, has been accepted for fall enrollment as a junior at the Maine School of Science and Mathematics.

The school, in northern Aroostook County, is a public residential high school that serves motivated high school sophomores, juniors and seniors from across the state.

Reunion tickets

PARIS – The Oxford Hills High School class of 1990 members have a last opportunity to purchase tickets for the 15th reunion. The reunion will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, at Four Seasons Function Center, Main Street, South Paris.
