Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist’s decision to support federal funding for embryonic stem cell research is just plain awful. Every embryo has all the genetic makeup of a human being because embryos are human beings in the earliest stage of development. Each embryo should have the right to be born. The fact that some embryos are fertilized outside the women’s bodies only means that doctors should stop the practice. All embryos should be fertilized by natural means.

So why did Frist change his mind? It had nothing to do with science, nor will it promote his presidential ambitions. I think Frist suffers from the need for social acceptance from the liberal elites: media, Hollywood and Ted Kennedy. I think he wants to get them all to say what a great guy he is and to be invited to their cocktail parties as guest of honor.

Because of his betrayal of human life, his constituents in Tennessee who put him in his position should remember next year and give him payback.
