GRAY – The first Honor the Animal pow wow will be held Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 13 and 14 at the Maine Wildlife Park on Route 26.

From 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day, there will be American Indian drumming and dancing demonstrations, craft vendors, singers and traditional foods. Dancers with regalia will be admitted to the park free both days.

Representatives of the Maine Abenaki, MicMac and Passamaquoddy tribes will be in attendance as vendors and presenters, and American Indians from New Hampshire and Massachusetts are expected to be at the park as well.

All proceeds from the pow wow will go toward new exhibits for red and gray foxes.

Regular admission fees will be charged.

A summer series of wildlife exhibits and demonstrations targeted for the general public will be offered all season at the park. Presenters will set up exhibits and demonstrations from roughly 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on most Saturdays.

The park will be open for an owl prowl 8 to 10 p.m. Aug. 20, and for the Halloween Night Hike, 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 14.

The park has more than 25 species of native wildlife on display, plus wildlife gardens, nature trails, and other exhibits and displays. It is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Nov. 11; visitors must leave the premises by 6 p.m.

Admission is free for ages 3 and under; $3.25 for ages 5-12; $5 for adults, and $4.00 for seniors. Groups of 15 or more are $2.50 per person. Family and community season passes are available.
